Surprising Cells Cause High Blood Pressure (you can control them)

This function is essential to your health. Without it, a simple flu would kill you and a splinter would bring you to the emergency room. But according to a study published in the journal, Immunity, this essential cell function is also responsible for deadly high blood pressure. Scientists from IRCCS Neuromed have discovered recently that T-cells, immune cells produced mostly by the spleen, play a major role in raising blood pressure. This sounds a little strange since the T-cells are an essential part of the immune system, but they also drive inflammation in the arteries, which causes damage to cardiovascular health.

The big question, however, is why does the body send out T-cells to raise blood pressure?

The scientists theorized that PlGF (a specific protein that interacts both with T-cell production and function to widen arteries) was the missing link in this function. To prove their theory, the scientists genetically engineered a group of mice, so they would not produce PlGF under any circumstances. Then they loaded the mice with angiotensin II, a hormone that usually raises blood pressure. But the engineered mice didn’t release any T-cells from the spleen and therefore their blood pressure stayed low. Whereas normal mice who produced PlGF, released T-cells and developed hypertension. Now, as the medical system would have it, the conclusion was to develop drugs to decrease PlGF and therefore decrease the number of T-cells released. And that’s where my opinion parts with the scientists.

Why in the world would you want to strong-arm the essential part of your immune system instead of first asking WHY does this function begin in the first place?

T-cell/inflammation response is called out when your body believes it’s under attack, or when there is a great danger to your health. This could be bacteria, pollution, foreign objects (splinter) or any other external threat to your body. Subtler, however, is any kind of stress. Especially long-lasting stress. This could be mental (challenge at work), emotional (divorce), sensory (traffic noise), or physical (running a marathon, disease), BP_139814820_m-2015but any kind of long-lasting stress puts your immune system in high gear to build up any damage done as soon as possible. This study was remarkable, and it revealed some of the physical processes your body goes through to raise blood pressure once it’s under stress. Your brain sends out PlGF, which produces T-cells and raises blood pressure when your body is experiencing long-lasting stress of some kind. Even after the stress is no longer present, the brain becomes somewhat stuck in the process of releasing PlGF. Therefore, the inflammation response (T-cells) and high blood pressure are stuck in ‘high gear,’ which again, causes stress throughout your body. The solution is to break this vicious circle. My approach is to apply something I call a Focused Break. It reboots your system, causing it to evaluate the need for increasing blood pressure or not. The typical result is that BP drops down to a normal level.

To apply the Focused Break, you must use 3 easy exercises. Learn more about the Focused Break and the 3 easy exercises here..!

Nature’s WEIRDEST Fat Burning Foods

5-foods-150x95Ready to kick start your fat loss using the weirdest natural foods you can find in your grocery store? As you probably know by now, I always recommend eating natural foods vs. many of the so-called “low fat” foods for weight loss.

Here’s a list of the top natural foods to add to your daily meals to fire up your metabolism today.

Grapefruit

grapefruitYou have probably heard of the grapefruit diet – the fad diet where you eat tons of grapefruit. Don’t worry. I’m not about promoting something quick, easy and ultimately temporary. You can’t survive off of only grapefruit for very long. However, including grapefruit in your diet can help your weight loss. Research has shown that eating half of a grapefruit prior to a meal can help you drop unwanted pounds faster. Grapefruit capsules, juice and real grapefruit have all proven to do the trick, so it is very easy to add this food to your daily diet (of course I always recommend eating the real thing whenever possible). On top of that, grapefruit also contains cancer fighting elements…and half a grapefruit is only 39 calories!

Sardines

sardinesBefore you turn your head and taste buds away from this weight loss superfood, think of your weight loss and nutrition goals first. Sardines offer some of the BIGGEST health and weight loss benefits around. For starters, they are loaded with protein which helps control your blood sugar, and as a result, sardines make you feel full while also firing up your metabolism. Sardines are also loaded with omega-3s which strengthen your cardiovascular system and boost your mood. So scan some delicious recipes and start using this weight loss super food into your daily diet.

Quality Beef

beefThis should go without saying, but it is important to always select meats that are from animals that have been grass-fed and not factory-farmed. Quality meats contain high amounts of protein which is critical to your weight loss success. Remember, protein helps build lean muscle. And lean muscle helps your body burn unwanted fat more efficiently. Protein also increases your metabolism, provides a full feeling for longer, and as a result, keeps you from overeating. And grass-fed beef has plenty of omega 3 elements which provide multiple benefits to your overall health and fat loss goals.

Green Tea

green teaGreen tea has also been linked to fad diets, but having a cup or two each day will provide super health benefits and help with weight loss. If you don’t like the taste of green tea, try adding some raw honey or stevia to sweeten the taste. This drink has proven to be a natural stimulant of weight loss, and as an extra dose of health, green tea is rich in antioxidants which increases your heart health, assists in digestion, and regulates blood sugar and body temperature. Also, it increases your metabolic rate, which will help you burn more fat. So take a drink of daily nutrition with green tea.

Pumpkin

pumpkinIt doesn’t have to be Halloween or Thanksgiving in order for you to enjoy the taste and nutrition that comes from pumpkins. This fall vegetable is loaded with fiber and a simple can of pumpkin only contains 40 calories (be sure to use 100% natural pumpkin). Also, a diet with high amounts of fiber helps weight management, flushes out toxins and helps your digestive system operate much more efficiently. And with pumpkin being a super easy food to prepare, you can enjoy this tasty food in a variety of recipes all year long.

The 5 Commandments Of Smart Dieting

The 3 Week Diet
To really see best results from any diet plan you choose to use, you need to learn a few ‘diet commandments’. These are guidelines that must be followed if you are going to see superior results that will help propel you forward.

Sadly, many people miss out on one or more of these and it greatly costs them their success.

Want to learn more? Check out the list of five commandments below.

Thou Shall Eat More Protein

Of all the foods that you could eat while on a fat loss diet, protein is perhaps the most important. Protein helps combat hunger, it helps stabilize blood glucose levels, and it helps prevent lean muscle mass loss. This in turn helps speed up your metabolism and accelerates the process of fat loss.

Don’t let your diet intake fall short. Aim to eat some protein in each and every meal and snack that you consume.

Thou Shall Eat Regularly

While the concept that your metabolism will increase the more often you eat isn’t entirely accurate — as the boost you get after a meal is directly related to the size of that meal — eating regularly does help to keep hunger at bay.

By feeding your body frequently throughout the day, you’ll help avoid food cravings, energy lows, and make it that much easier to stick to your diet program.

Thou Shall Prioritize Fresh Foods

When selecting your foods, eating fresh is a must. We live in a world where processed foods are around every corner and just waiting to cause us weight gain.

Eliminate these and you’ll really give your diet a boost. Focus on foods in their natural state — fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats and oils, and lean proteins.

If you only make one change to your diet plan, make it this one.

Thou Shall Set Short Term Goals

One diet rule that you should abide by and follow is to always set short term goals for yourself. Think about what you are doing in the here and now, not months from now. It’s too easy to lose sight of your goals if they are going to take place six months to a year down the road.

Try thinking in three-week segments. Three weeks is about how long it takes for good habits to form, so is the perfect amount of time to you build behaviors that will stand the test of time.

This is precisely why The 3 Week Diet was created. It will help you stay motivated and consistent until you don’t even have to think about making those changes any longer — They’ll just be automatic.

Thou Shall Stop Comparisons

Finally, stop comparing yourself to others. Realize that this is your own journey and your own body. It’s unlike anyone else’s so you simply can’t expect to see the same results as everyone else.

Instead, start comparing yourself today to yourself from yesterday. That will give you all the details you need to know. If each day you are getting better, you are successful in your journey.

So keep these diet commandments in mind. Focus on these and you can feel confident that you are headed in the right direction. Read more CLICK HERE!

Exercise Pays Off – Arthritis and Fibro Pain

728x90-bad2d2f1-f770-435c-af1f-fa227fc1beed

Step up to Relieve Fibro Pain

lone_jogger (2)Taking more steps each day may help reduce symptoms of fibromyalgia and improve overall health, according to a 2014 study in Arthritis Care & Research. Investigators followed 199 adults with fibromyalgia wearing an accelerometer, which tracked their step count, for 12 weeks. Those who increased their steps the most over the three-month period also had the most significant reduction in fibromyalgia symptoms. Exercise like walking increases the release of endorphin like chemicals in the blood and activates brain regions that dampen pain while reducing depression, says study author Dennis C. Ang. a rheumatologist at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Using a pedometer or activity monitor to track your steps can help you slowly increase activity.

Be a Fit Role Model

Whether you have arthritis or your spouse does, being physically active can help you both. Research from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found that if one spouse exercises regularly, the other is significantly more likely to do the same. The findings were presented at the American Heart Association’s EPI/Lifestyle 2015 Scientific Sessions. Researchers looked at the records of 15,792 middle-age adults and asked 3,261 couples about their physical activity levels.

4 Super-foods that KO Arthritis Pain in a Flash

It’s well understood that your diet plays a crucial role in your arthritis pain. While the same foods that give you a trim waist and clear arteries will likely relieve your pain, a few foods stand head and shoulders above the rest. Add these 4 pain-fighting super-foods to your diet and you’ll probably feel a difference a few minutes after your last bite.

– Blueberries

Blueberries are overflowing with nutrients that KO arthritis pain. Yummy blueberries are especially rich in crucial compounds called antioxidants. Antioxidants are your body’s bodyguards that protect your joints from damage. If you don’t get enough of them, expect epic arthritis flare-ups to take hold.

In fact, a USDA commissioned study found that wild blueberries have more antioxidants than any other food on planet Earth! Research at the University of Prince Edward Island recently found that eating blueberries significantly reduced arthritis pain.

– Green Tea

If you have arthritis, there’s an acronym that should be part of your vocabulary: EGCG. EGCG is the insanely beneficial compound found only in green tea that fights everything from cancer to cavities.

Used for centuries as a pain reliever in China, green tea is earning the notice of University researchers in the West. A study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science found that EGCG drops inflammation and relieves pain in people with severe arthritis.

– Broccoli

If you’re like most people, your mother made you down this bitter green cruciferous veggie as a kid. If you followed to her advice into adulthood, you may not have arthritis today. Scientists at the University of East Anglia recently figured out why broccoli helps people with osteoarthritis –by far, the most common arthritis type.

They found that broccoli (and only broccoli) contains a funny sounding nutrient called sulforaphane. Sulforaphane presses the “OFF” button on enzymes that destroy vulnerable joints and cartridge.

– Kidney Beans

In terms of arthritis pain, kidney beans have a lot going for them. First, it’s got almost as much antioxidants per ounce as blueberries. Also, they’re one of the few carbohydrate sources known as “slow carbs.” Slow carbs are digested and absorbed slowly –unlike white bread, potatoes, and soda. Studies show that replacing rapidly digesting carbs with slow carbs relieves arthritis pain. Last (but not least), kidney beans are bursting with soluble fiber. Soluble fiber fights appetite and accelerates the weight loss results you get from dieting.

Eating these 4 foods may help you feel a bit better –but they’re not nearly enough to completely reverse arthritis. Click Here to Learn More

Arthritis – Joints and Muscles Pain

Which Would Be Nice Heat or Ice?

imagesJM9840CYIt’s no secret that heat and ice relieve aching joints and muscles, but many people don’t know when to use which one. Heat and cold affect blood flow in opposite ways, so they have different applications, says Scott Lynch, MD, director of sports medicine at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in State College.

COLD THERAPY: Cold causes blood vessels to constrict, which slows circulation and reduces swelling. It also makes nerve endings less sensitive, dulling the pain.

  • Best for: Inflamed or swollen joints; acute pain and swelling from injury; bruises; sprains. Those with a condition that affects circulation shouldn’t ice injuries.
  • How to apply: To prevent frostbite, use ice for no more than 20 minutes at a time. Use a towel or other buffer between a cold pack and your skin.

HEAT THERAPY: Heat widens blood vessels, delivering nutrients that heal joints and muscles, while relaxing tight muscles.

  • Best for: Chronic pain, sore muscles and spasms and morning stiffness.
  • How to apply: Moist heat from a shower or bath penetrates muscle better than dry heat. Use heat 20 minutes before working out. Apply a heating pad no more than 20 minutes at a time, and buffer the skin to avoid burns.

PSORIATRIC ARTHRITIS – Studies Show – Stops Psoriasis Directly at the Source

PsA Returns Without Meds

psoriasis-typesPeople with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) shouldn’t be too quick to go off their medications after experiencing remission, according to a small study published recently in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases.

Researchers at the University of Erlangen Nüremberg in Germany looked at 26 people with long-term PsA who had been in remission for at least six months and who were being treated with either a conventional disease modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) or a type of biologic called a TNF inhibitor. The patients were taken off their medication, and 20 of the 26 developed doctor-confirmed symptoms again within six months.

The results mean that we rarely cure PsA with current treatment but rather effectively suppress inflammation, and hence signs and symptoms, says lead study author Georg Schett, MD, professor of medicine.

Stress Is One Of The Primary Psoriasis Triggers, Learning HOW To Manage Stress On A Day To Day Basis Is A Critical Factor In Your Recovery From Psoriasis.

Stress causes your body to naturally secrete high levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and this works against you by:

  • Suppressing Your Immune System, Making You Even More Likely To Experience Recurring Psoriatic Plaques or Psoriatic Arthritis…
  • Increasing The Inflammatory Response, Causing More Pain, Redness, Swelling, Itching And Discomfort…
  • Reducing Your Energy Levels By Affecting Your Blood Sugar Levels, Making You Tired And Hungry For The Wrong Foods. Many Psoriasis Patients Are Overweight And Under Too Much Stress…
  • Causing Sleeping Disturbances Making You More Tired And Irritable, Preventing Quick Recovery From Lesions Or Pain…

The stress of recurring psoriasis alone causes your body to secrete stress Screen-Shot-2015-03-30-at-5_38_20-pm-300x206hormones continually Low-Grade, and so the chronic stress cycle continues on, making it literally impossible to correct psoriasis outbreaks. 75 Percent Of Psoriasis Patients Have Candida

Did you know that over three-quarters of ALL psoriasis patients in fact have a big problem with candida yeast infections? Numerous studies now validate 2014-11-26_1538this, but your doctor most probably will be ignoring this and just treating your skin instead. If you ignore the fact that there is a high probability that you may have a yeast overgrowth in your digestive system, you are missing the boat. This information is one of the missing links when it comes to getting rid of those continual psoriasis flare-ups. Once you finally correct the yeast overgrowth and restore balance and harmony to your digestive system amazing things will happen, like:

-No more sweet or sugar cravings

-Permanent weight loss

-Loads more energy and vitality

-No more bloating, gas or burping

-No more heartburn

-No more vaginal thrush

-No more jock itch

-No more toe nail fungus

Ignoring psoriasis or just ‘treating symptoms’ is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. The longer you continue to just “deal” with the symptoms, they worse they become and the longer it takes you condition to heal. If you have moderate to severe psoriasis, you’re at a much greater risk of developing certain diseases. Individuals with psoriasis are at an elevated risk to develop other chronic and serious health conditions such as heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, many other auto-immune diseases and even diabetes. People with severe psoriasis can even have a significantly elevated risk of heart attack.

Great Grains for Better Health, and the Fastest Way to Lose Weight

For Better Health, Go with Unrefined Options

creative_heartshaped_05_hd_picture_165828Food made with refined white flour often contain ingredients, like sugar and fats, that can lead to inflammation. But that’s not the only reason you should be eating fewer processed grains and more whole grains.

Whole grains cause a slower rise in blood glucose than refined grains. Eating more whole grains may make you eat less because you feel more full, and that may lead to less obesity, which is linked to inflammation.

In fact, research has linked eating whole grains to a host of health improvements, including reduced levels of C-reactive protein (a marker of inflammation), lower cholesterol levels, a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and a longer life expectancy.

The Fastest Way To Lose Weight In 3 Weeks

The 3 Week Diet

Alicia Romano, a registered dietitian at Tufts Medical Center, believes the collective effect of  nutrients, like fiber and B vitamins, found in whole grains, and missing from refined grains, makes the difference.

You lose a lot of nutrients during the refining process. Whole grains consist of the bran, germ and endosperm, containing B vitamins (like thiamin, riboflavin and folate), iron, potassium, magnesium and other nutrients.

Refined grains are milled to achieve a finer texture, but milling strips out the fiber-rich bran and the germ, where nutrients are concentrated. They may be enriched (with stripped nutrients that are added back) and/or fortified with other nutrients.

Look for 100 percent whole grain (“pearled” grains are refined) and read ingredient lists. “The first ingredient should be 100 percent whole grains” Dietitian Romano says.

Simple Serving

Don’t be afraid to try different grains. Each grain has its own unique texture and flavor profile. Most are prepared like rice, simmer with water until it’s absorbed, although some need more water and time to cook. Make enough for several meals and refrigerate, then serve it reheated or cold with any meal.

For breakfast: Soak oats overnight in soy milk, microwave them in the morning and top with fresh fruit. Or heat a bowl of cooked amaranth and drizzle with honey, milk and walnuts.

For lunch: Cook and chill quinoa, then add black beans, chopped tomatoes, onions and celery, and toss with vinaigrette.

For supper: For a pilaf with a twist, saute onion and mushroom with faro in oil, then add water or broth and simmer until the liquid is absorbed.

Great Grains to Try

  • Amaranth
  • Barley
  • Buckwheat
  • Bulgur
  • Farro
  • Freekeh
  • Millet
  • Quinoa
  • Rye
  • Sorghum
  • Spelt
  • Teff
